K.O.D. x Ora Slick - IV Real (Prod. Ehanyes) @kodney @oraslick_music

Four in Roman Numerals is “IV”--but “IV Real” by K.O.D. and Ora Slick is really focused on another meaning of IV. The Ehanyes-produced song--over melancholic trap and echoing sirens--is an injection of real, mainlined with sickening accuracy. K.O.D. plays the manic dope dealer--washing down paranoia with brown liquor while his voice cracks between anger and pain. Ora Slick is the foil--providing concise raps with enough slickness to warrant the name. Together, the duo’s hot/cold dynamic allows them to deliver a perfect shot of anxiety ridden trap--capable of soundtracking a banger or that moment when you don’t know who could be knocking on the door.

going to pick a side. He’ll rap about the trap, all wrapped up in triplets like
little baggies. He’ll lie to his mother about the contents of his backpack,
pained croon to himself when he realizes the consequences of his actions. Out
telling her about his plans to be doctor or lawyer. Late night, he’ll sing in a
of trap. You can hear it in the beats--90’s style saxophone samples drift over
of Hyde Park, Boston, K.O.D. mixes a little bit of conscious with a little bit dancing hi-hats and mind-altering 808’s or in the way his voice switches
have said that a rapper like K.O.D. is contradictory. He might be--but that’s because
between melody and dissonance like Jekyll and Hyde. In the past, people would
he’s a person. Everybody is a contradiction.
